Swissgenetics: The future of Original Braunvieh between innovation and precision

The increasing demand for Original Braunvieh genetics can be targeted and satisfied using sexed semen. The Original Braunvieh breeding programme at Swissgenetics is continuing its success with the objective of introducing eight promising young bulls every year.

In Switzerland the herd book figures for Original Braunvieh are on the rise. This reflects the high demand for this breed. Using seleXYon technology breeders can concentrate on producing female progeny as it enables them, with over 90% probability, to obtain a cow calf. In Switzerland seleXYon doses are currently used for 17% of OB inseminations and Swissgenetics is working hard to increase this proportion in order to support the further development of the breed.

Currently there are 12 sires available – seven Optimis and five proven sires – providing breeders with a broad and strategic selection for their breeding. This targeted and innovative approach guarantees Swissgenetics a leading position in the sustainable and profitable improvement of cattle genetics.
